A huge 67 slide presentation on ‘What Youth Think’ was floating around at work today.
Its unbelievable how marketing companies are spending zillions on ‘understanding young people’ and getting information like ‘Twitter Mania is the new buzz in self expression ‘ and ‘Reality TV is tapping into unstated needs of youth today’ in the name of newly acquired wisdom.

I really feel , we can throw away all these research docs out of the window and get more insights out of observation of a 16 yr old at a shopping mall , at home and in a classroom environment.

Infact , if we simply read into daily news , we ll find some of the most path breaking , turn of the century trends hidden out there in some of the most mundane articles.

5 trends that I picked up from our morning news paper and am looking forward to becoming a socio-cultural phenomenon soon enough

1. Custom made matrimony
From ‘seeking fair , homely and beautiful girl’ to niche match making , matrimonial alliances have come a long way.
You could throw away those typical ‘abbreviated to save some bucks’ profiles that you checked out in your sunday paper. There are profile consultants who would tailor make audio – visual profiles to you to ‘present you and your family’ in the best way possible to prospective partners. Not going the arranged way ? Found the love of your life but seem to be struggling with the ‘Will you marry me?” then customised proposal designers to come to your aid to make sure you hit jackpot in the most memorable (melodramatic way) with ‘the perfect proposal;Marriages have come a long way from being only ‘made in heaven’ , welcome to an era of ‘Marriages custom made on earth’.

2. Rent anything!
Who ever said money cant buy you happiness , had nt seen this coming. In a world where we can rent everything around us , even friends are for sale! If you think you need to find an interesting companion to hangout at games , or take along for a movie or play scrabble with on a lazy sunday after noon and none of your friends are too keen to spend that kind of time with you, all you need to do is Rent a Friend! Pathbreaking isnt it?

Alrite…

So here ‘s more!

Scene 2

Location : Right outside McDonald’s , CP

( Am thoroughly bored of people  . of meeting them. of smiling and smiling on. Of talking about what i do at work. and outside of it . Blah Blah Blah. AND here i am . feeling over dressed . And over – aged . And wondering WHY oh WHY are we all at McD as i see toddlers running all over the place. hmmm… is this the place where i meet Mr Right . Like over a Happy Meal !!)

The guy : is quite cute. But then there’s the family . and the extended family and the kid that’s throwing stuff around.

Me : Am done with the whole thing before i even start off.

We all decide , McD isnt the place to be ( phew!!) and walk towards Madras coffee house.

We take the centre stage ahh the table at the centre ? We also happen to be one of the three groups of people occupying the place. And there’s some really random music playing in the background . Well this isnt my setting for a dreamy first meeting with even Laloo Prasad Yadav!!

Did i mention , i was put off?

Well , i prefer to listen to “Tota mere tota main to teri ho gayi [oh parrot , my parrot , i am yours forever!... whatever that means!!] ” playing in the background as i try to do a movie tracks search in my brain. The coffee ‘s quite lame. And yes.. people are chatting around me. Oh Yes.. I was here to meet Mr Right , i remind myself.

My father asks me “So would you guys want to talk?”

I say : “No thats not required” And i smile. And people stare at me. ( did the guy look a little heartbroken? Alrite .. so cant i be a little judgemental ?)

Everyone says “You must !”

So we go ahead and talk. And we are done. And we move on.

And whats so great about this encounter? Well , this is what inspired to start writing about how am dealing with “my search!!”

So long… more soon!

If one tries to analyse the moment when inspiration strikes , its generally spontaneous ( very right now.. if you know what i mean) but there ‘s this thought process that ‘s some where working in the background… which sort of leads you to ‘be inspired’ whenever you come across the source of it!

Am watching Travel & Living – and an exceedingly amusing program on it called – “how to find a husband” . I read a book some time back about a babe who travels half way around the world , suitably titled “Around the world in 80 dates” , date herself into finding “the one!”. And in almost the same fashion  , this program walks through lifes and times of a single , professional , independent woman ( on the wrong side of 30s) throwing in date-doctors, Love-gurus, Strategies and actual dates (!!!) as she goes about on her one point agenda .

Even though people like me dont get to do fascinating stuff like those two babes( sigh!)  am doing quite okay for myself ( ahem ahem i say that with heavy tones of sarcasm) So here i am penning down life right now.

It wouldnt take a sherlock holmes to crack what this post is about. there are no subtle messages , no encrypted masked cues. its right up there . And that’s what’s rocking( ha ha) life as i see it now a days.

It all started sometime in the latter half of the year that’s gone by…

ahhh… well we neednt go about it chronologically. Infact , though there are one zillion ways i can classify them .. i ll just list the ‘shining moment’ of it all. In no particular order .. here goes…

Scene 1 :

Location : Barista , Some mall in Noida.

( My first EVER meeting up. The whole family – chacha , chache ke beta , beta ke friends, the whole neighbourhood , distant relatives – atleast 8 people land up. yessss at barista. and i was ready to die)

The prospective groom , here on would be called “the guy” for the lack of a better word. and his cousin ( the cuter one of the two and still single) and me – sit down seperately – to interact!

The guy : is quiet

The cousin & me are chatting away to glory.

after 15 minutes of talking abt trips to pondicherry and exotic holidays and my passion for music and discussing from matchbox twenty to doors , with the cousin … i realise The guy is now a part of the furniture .

Time to make a move, Uncleji asks my father “how do you think we should take it forward ?” My father tells him he’ll let him know once he talks to me at home . Uncle ji says “Yeh nahin chalega toh , Raja ke baare mein bhi soch lena. uske liye bhi dhoond rahe hain” [ if you dont want to go ahead with the guy , consider the cousin too , we are looking out for him as well]

And you thought – trial offers were applicable only when you went shopping!

More soon!!
